Police in Spain have cracked down on a criminal network made up of Albanian citizens, who were engaged in the cultivation of marijuana in warehouses adapted as "weed houses" in the province of Zaragoza.

As reported by Spanish media, during the police operation, 2,013 cannabis plants and over 20 kilograms of marijuana flowers were seized, while it was discovered that the group had stolen electricity worth 214 thousand euros, equivalent to the consumption of 250 homes in one year.

In total, 9 people were arrested, aged 21–46, who had various roles in the organization: from the main leader who covered logistics and finances, to associates who transported materials and plantation caretakers who lived inside the warehouses.

The operation began in September 2024, when the judicial police of Casetas suspected that several industrial warehouses on the outskirts of Zaragoza were being used for illegal cultivation. Following the investigation, on December 2, 8 searches were carried out in warehouses and apartments in Cuarte de Huerva, San Mateo de Gállego, La Puebla de Alfindén, Zuera and in Zaragoza.

Police also found large sums of money, mobile phones and documents important to the investigation. Two of the arrested are also accused of forgery of public documents, having used false identities to avoid identification.

The operation was led by the Casetas judicial police and the unit against organized crime and drugs (EDOA), with the support of security forces from Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel, as well as specialized drug detection dogs.
