US President Donald Trump is sending his Iran negotiating team, led by Vice President JD Vance, to Pakistan, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said on Wednesday, adding that the first round of talks will take place on Saturday.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner were also part of the team, Leavitt told reporters.
Leavitt stressed that Vance has played an important and key role on the Iran issue from the beginning, and added that there have been conversations between high levels of the US government and China.
Meanwhile, Vance stated a while ago that "the US never promised to include Lebanon in the ceasefire," although the Iranians may have had that impression.
If the Iranians want the negotiations to fail because of Lebanon, "it is their choice," he added, noting that it would be "foolish."
Vance also answers a question on the Gulf of Hormuz, saying there are signs that it is starting to reopen.
Iranian officials have disputed this, saying the gulf remains closed.
Earlier, Iran warned that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz without permission would be "targeted and destroyed."
