US-Iran close to agreement, Rubio: In the coming hours, the world will receive
Donald Trump and Marco Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that within a few hours the world could receive "some good news" regarding the negotiations taking place between the United States and Iran.

While speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Rubio hinted that there could be an official announcement later today regarding developments in the Middle East, including issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic sea routes for transporting oil and gas.

"I think there's probably a chance that in the next few hours the world will get some good news," Rubio told reporters.

The deal would also begin a "process that could ultimately leave us where the president wants us to be, and that's a world that no longer has to fear or worry about an Iranian nuclear weapon," he added.

Rubio said progress had been made in the past 48 hours on a blueprint that could help resolve the situation around the Strait of Hormuz. He reiterated that Iran should never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon and said the attacks on merchant ships were "completely illegal."

His comments came after Trump said a proposal involving the opening of the Strait of Hormuz had been "largely negotiated," according to foreign media.
