The Russian currency appears to be in freefall, with 1 us dollar being exchanged today for 100 rubles.
While experts say the Russian ruble is heading for collapse because the Kremlin has burned billions in the war in Ukraine, Russia blames the central bank.
During a tv show, propagandist Vladimir Solovyov accused the Bank of Russia of saying the currency was among the world's three weakest.
"We've become ridiculous. The damn bank isn't explaining why the ruble rate is so high. They are not explaining anything to us about what is happening," he said in a loud tone on Russia-1 television.
He warned that the inflation rate could peak during President Putin's re-election campaign, with a vote scheduled next March.
The Bank of Russia later announced that it would halt foreign currency purchases on the domestic market for the rest of the year.
The currency's collapse shows the devastating impact sanctions by the EU, the United Kingdom and the US have had on the Russian economy.
