The first case of aphids also occurs in Slovenia

The first case of smallpox in Slovenia is confirmed.

As foreign media reports the first case is a Slovenian returning from the Canary Islands.

On Monday, the man was suspected of being infected with monkey pox. 

The disease was confirmed today, but the patient was not admitted to the Infectious Diseases Clinic at the University Medical Center in Ljubljana. 

From this it is thought to be an easier form of the disease.

Recent outbreaks reported are atypical, according to the WHO, as they are occurring in places where the virus does not circulate regularly.

Scientists are trying to understand the origin of the current cases and whether anything has changed about the virus.

Most of the cases reported so far have been detected in the UK, Spain and Portugal.
