Britain is facing a record heatwave this week, with authorities warning that temperatures will reach 43C on Sunday

This would exceed by several degrees the previous record in this country, recorded in July 2019 at the Cambridge Botanical Garden, of 38.7 degrees Celsius.

The situation is expected to be chaotic, while yesterday the citizens flocked en masse to the coast, when the temperatures were only 29 degrees Celsius.

"There is extremely hot air that has developed in Spain and France, which is heading towards our country. It might be something we've never seen before. There is a good chance that the record will be broken.

This kind of heat will not be well received by anyone, except perhaps the people who deal with statistics. It will be dangerously hot, our buildings and infrastructure are not designed to handle it. Those who will be most at risk will be the sick and the elderly.

There will be risks and restrictions on railways are also expected. People should think if they travel. There will also be high levels of UV rays," the British Met Office reported.

Employers were last night asked to allow flexibility in working hours, amid fears there will be a wave of sick people in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Bob Ward, Director of Policy and Communications at the London School of Economics, warned that the weather could cause "hundreds" of deaths.

"This period of high temperatures, we know from past experiences, will unfortunately lead to hundreds of deaths across the country," he said.
