Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump that he would end the war if Ukraine handed over the Donetsk region to Russia, the British newspaper Telegraph reveals.
The Russian president said he would make unspecified territorial concessions in favor of Kiev in exchange for control over the mineral-rich eastern oblast.
His demands were set out by the US president in a phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, and a group of European leaders after their meeting in Alaska.
Details of the peace summit in Anchorage will further fuel fears that Zelensky will be under pressure to cede territory and accept numerous Russian demands as part of Trump's hasty effort to end the war.
"Trump wants this to be done as soon as possible and I don't think it will take long," a European official told the Telegraph.
Zelensky has made it clear that he is not willing to discuss giving up territory that is not already controlled by Russian forces as part of any peace agreement.
