Russia "will not fall into the same trap as the Soviet Union, its economy will remain open." The statement was made by Vladimir Putin speaking in front of young Russian entrepreneurs. The Russian president added that the challenge facing the country now is to strengthen itself further.

During the speech, Putin compared himself to Peter the Great, the 18th-century Russian monarch, implying that he considered himself a "tsar."

During his speech, the Russian president seems to admit that the war in Ukraine was part of an imperial occupation. In a meeting with young entrepreneurs and scientists, Putin said he was returning the territory to Russia.

"Peter the Great led the War of the North for 21 years. It looked like he was fighting Sweden and invading territories. He was not conquering anything! "He was taking them again!" Putin said.

With this statement, Putin attempted to make a direct connection between his attempt to invade Ukraine and Peter the Great's war against Sweden. He went on to imply that he believed Ukrainian land would soon be declared Russian and eventually recognized as such.

"When Peter the Great established the new capital in St. Petersburg, none of the European countries recognized this territory as Russian. "Everyone recognized it as Swedish territory," he added.
