Vučić: New elections on June 8 if new government is not confirmed

The March 15 protest in Belgrade, considered the largest since the fall of Slobodan Milosevic's regime, has caused reflection from President Aleksandar Vučić.

"We clearly understood the message and we will have to change something from ourselves, the government must learn lessons. Maybe after three or four months, hold a referendum or elections to verify its legitimacy," Vučić said.

Vučić convened the government on Saturday, attended by Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić and the Chief of the Army General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.

Serbian media reports that Vučić has stated that if a government is not formed within 30 days of Miloš Vučević's announcement of his resignation in Parliament, parliamentary elections could be held on June 8.

In the March 15 protest, 56 people were injured, without serious life-threatening consequences.

While 22 protesters have been arrested for crimes against property and for attacks on police officers and other people.

Protesters are demanding criminal and political accountability for this tragic event.
