The Istanbul prosecutor's office issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 36 other people on charges of genocide in connection with Israel's military operations in Gaza.
The arrest warrants include senior Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Israel Katz, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, Borders and Security Minister Eyal Zamir, and Navy Commander David Saar Salama.
The prosecution has cited several events dating back to October 2023, including the attack on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital on October 17, 2023, and the damage to Ebli Baptist Hospital on October 21, 2023.
The charges are based on allegations that Israeli forces have deliberately targeted civilians and infrastructure, blocking humanitarian aid and access to medical services.
Turkey has been among the harshest critics of Israel's military campaign in Gaza, which began after Hamas attacks on southern Israel in October 2023.
