Cryptocurrency fraudster and his wife murdered in UAE

Cryptocurrency fraudster and "friend of Durov" Roman Novak and his wife have been killed in the United Arab Emirates.

The couple disappeared about a month ago after attending a meeting with investors in the city of Hatta. According to one version, the attackers kidnapped the couple and demanded a ransom, but when they did not receive the money, they were killed. Another version suggests that the criminals hoped to gain access to Novak's cryptocurrency accounts. Media reports claim that the victims' bodies were dismembered and placed in bags, which were later dumped near a shopping mall in Hatta.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the murder of two people. According to media reports, seven suspects have been detained and a court in St. Petersburg is expected to decide on their pretrial detention on November 7.

Novak had previously been sentenced in Russia to six years in prison for large-scale fraud, was later released on bail and moved to the United Arab Emirates, where he launched a crypto project called Fintopio, raising around $500 million in investments before disappearing.

A third version suggests that the murder may have been staged — to help Novak escape his debts. According to investors, he had a history of disappearing with other people's money, calling himself a "friend of Durov" (the founder of Telegram) and promising quick profits from cryptocurrency ventures.
