Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has decided to bring Christmas to October 1.
The 61-year-old leader of latin America won his three-year term last month despite numerous allegations of manipulation of the electoral process.
In a television interview, he made no secret of his joy at the election victory, saying he would sign a decree to move the Christmas holiday to October 1.
It's September and it smells like Christmas. That is why this year, in homage to you, in gratitude to you, I will decree that Christmas be brought to October 1," Maduro said during a televised appearance on Monday.
This is not the first time Maduro has changed the date of Christmas since taking over the reins of the majority-Catholic country from Hugo Chavez in 2013. He did so during the Covid-19 pandemic, but shifted it by just a few days.
Christmas is celebrated on December 25, when it is also thought to be the date of Christ's birth.
