American President Biden declared in an interview that the pandemic is over. But there are still problems with COVID-19. The government and Congress have allocated several billion dollars more to fight the pandemic.
The President of the United States of America Joe Biden stated: "The pandemic is over. We still have a problem with Corona. We are still working hard to fight this virus, but the pandemic is over," said the 79-year-old in an interview for CBS television's "60 Minutes."
"No one wears masks"
The interview was recorded on Thursday, when President Biden visited, among other things, an auto show in Detroit, Michigan. "As you can see, nobody here is wearing a mask. Everyone seems to be in pretty good shape, so I think the situation is changing, and I think this is a perfect example of what's happening," said the American president, Biden.
President Biden's statement could cause turmoil within his own administration. Just a few weeks ago, the US government asked the US Congress for billions of additional dollars to fight the pandemic, so that it can continue to offer tests and vaccinations, during a possible wave of Corona in the fall.
However, restrictions due to the Corona virus in the US have been largely lifted. Even movements and trips are almost back to the pre-pandemic level.
President Biden himself tested positive for the Corona virus in July of this year and was treated with the anti-Covid drug, Paxlovid. At the end of August, his wife Jill was also infected with this virus and was treated with the same drug – Paxlovid.
400 people die every day from Corona
But according to the American health agency CDC, almost 400 people die every day in the United States from infection with the Corona virus. US authorities have recently approved the use of two vaccines adapted against the Omicron variant. Both preparations are so-called bivalent mRNA vaccines from the companies BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna.
