Indications of an imminent military confrontation between the United States and Iran are increasing day by day, while regional countries and major powers are taking immediate security measures.
From the opening of shelters in Israel, the evacuation of American diplomatic staff, to warnings from China, Canada and other countries to their citizens, the overall picture is that of a region on alert.
In Israel, the mayor of Beersheba ordered the opening of all public shelters, alarming residents of the area. The message to citizens was clear.
"By order of the mayor, general opening of all public shelters."
However, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokeswoman Brigadier General Effie Defrin attempted to reassure the public, stressing that there are no changes to military guidelines.
“I am aware of the sense of uncertainty and tension among the public. The IDF is closely monitoring the situation in Iran and is vigilantly ready to protect you. There is no change in the guidelines. If there is a change, we will inform you immediately.”
At the same time, the US State Department gave the "green light" for the removal of non-essential personnel and their families from the embassy in Israel.
The decision, described as an “authorized departure,” was accompanied by an urgent message from Ambassador Mike Huckabee, who asked staff to book flights “TODAY” from every possible destination. Similar measures were taken earlier for the US embassy in Beirut, where the directive was more binding.
The alarm is not limited to Israel.
China issued a strict travel warning, urging citizens to avoid all travel to Iran and those already there to leave as soon as possible. Canada warned its citizens.
Britain announced the temporary withdrawal of its staff from Iran, while Australia ordered the families of diplomats to leave Israel and Lebanon. Poland, Sweden, India and other countries have made similar calls for their citizens. The wave of warnings shows the growing concern of the international community about a possible escalation.
The United States is increasing its military presence in the region.
The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford arrived in Israel after departing from Souda. US F-22 jets are stationed at Ovda Air Base; 12 are already stationed and 13 more are expected to arrive.
CNN reported that at least nine US refueling planes are on the tarmac at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv. This buildup of troops and equipment shows the US is prepared for any possible scenario.
The atmosphere of uncertainty is rapidly spreading in the region, as the international community follows developments with concern. Warnings, evacuations and military movements make the possibility of a direct confrontation between the US and Iran increasingly tangible, with far-reaching consequences for the stability of the Middle East and beyond.
