Tensions Escalate, Israel Warns Turkey: Don't Test Our Patience in Syria

Tensions between Israel and Turkey are escalating over developments in Syria. Israel has warned Ankara against expanding its military involvement in Syrian territory, days after the Israeli military attacked the Abu al-Duhur air base in northwestern Syria.

The attack, carried out on Tuesday, damaged the air base, but no casualties were reported. Israel claims the facility was being prepared for use by Turkish forces.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of dragging Turkey into "dangerous adventures" in Syria and warned Ankara not to test Israel's resolve to defend itself.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said Damascus was close to violating a security "status quo" by allowing Turkish troops to be deployed in Syria. Both Syria and Turkey have denied these claims.

The clash between the two countries has increasingly shifted to Syria, where Turkey has emerged as a key backer of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and is helping train and rebuild the Syrian armed forces.

Israel opposes the establishment of a permanent Turkish military presence in Syria, arguing that such a development could threaten its security and limit the Israeli military's freedom of action on Syrian territory.
