The US military announced on Thursday that a new aircraft carrier strike group has arrived in the Middle East.
The aircraft carrier USS George Washington, which previously operated in the Pacific based in Japan, has been deployed to the region as part of a planned rotation.
US Central Command ( CENTCOM ) stated in a post on X: “The George Washington Aircraft Carrier Strike Group is operating in the Middle East during a planned deployment after arriving in the CENTCOM theater yesterday.”
This development comes after media reports of difficult conditions aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been deployed to the region since November 2025.
Relatives of crew members have reported food shortages, plumbing problems, and dire living conditions. There have even been reports of suicide attempts.
US President Donald Trump dismissed these concerns but confirmed that the Lincoln would be replaced by another carrier to avoid further criticism of his military campaign against Iran.
The deployment of the USS George Washington to the Middle East aims to strengthen the US military presence in the region, while the conditions of the crews remain an open challenge for the US administration.
