After the USA, even Taiwan drops a Chinese balloon

Taiwan says it has found the remains of what appears to be a downed Chinese balloon.

Taiwan's military said it had seen an unidentified object hovering over Dongyin, a Taiwanese-controlled island off the coast of China, at 11:00 a.m. local time on Thursday.

Initial investigations suggested the debris was part of a meteorological instrument, the military added. On Friday, Taiwan's Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng said officials would further investigate the downed balloon but would not jump to conclusions.

This is the first time such a discovery has been made on the islands of Taiwan, said official Chen Yu-lin. China views self-governing Taiwan as a breakaway province that will eventually come under Beijing's control. But Taiwan sees itself with its own constitution and democratically elected leaders.

We recall that the situation has been tense between China and the USA after finding a balloon in South Carolina that is suspected to have been used for espionage. The United States also shot down three other suspicious objects.
