The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro and the National Security Agency (ANB) have banned 28 foreign citizens from staying and entering Montenegro, who, as they say, worked for the interests of foreign services.

"Through the operation carried out by the National Security Agency, the subjects have been identified as bearers of malicious influence carried out for the interests of foreign services", it is stated in the announcement of the Ministry of the Interior. Earlier, the prosecution confirmed the arrest of two Montenegrin citizens.

The two people were arrested after the raid of their homes by the Police, based on the ANB announcement, under suspicion of the criminal offense of espionage - confirmed the spokesman of the Special State Prosecution, Vukas Radonjiq.

The police searched the apartments by order of the Supreme Court.

Criminal charges have been filed against these two persons at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica. The investigation into criminal offenses is ongoing by the Special State Prosecutor's Office.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro has announced on September 29 that it has declared six Russian diplomats accredited in Podgorica as non-women. In her post on Teitter, it is said that they are declared non-grata "due to activities that are contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, as well as to the relationship of mutual appreciation and respect between the two countries."

In the last six months, six more Russian diplomats were expelled with the same explanation.

After this event, the Embassy of Russia in Montenegro has closed the consular department for an indefinite period, "due to the hostile actions of the Montenegrin authorities against the Embassy of the Russian Federation".

These deportations are related to Thursday's action by the National Security Agency of Montenegro (ANB) and the Special State Prosecutor's Office to investigate the suspected links of some Montenegrin and Russian citizens with the intelligence services of the Russian Federation.

Diplomatic relations between Montenegro and Russia have deteriorated since 2014, when Podgorica backed European Union sanctions against Moscow over its annexation of the Ukrainian Crimean Peninsula.

Montenegro has joined Western sanctions against Moscow also because of Russia's war in Ukraine, which began on February 24 of this year. Russia has responded by declaring Montenegro an "unfriendly state"./REL
