In the near future, NATO will be able to face something it has never faced before, namely China and Russia. The extreme warning comes from the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with the British media "The Telegraph". According to the head of NATO, the countries that possess nuclear weapons are arming themselves at a dizzying speed and quantity, as a result, no one is safe anymore.

"In the not-too-distant future, NATO may face something it has never faced before, and that is two potential adversaries with nuclear power - China and Russia. Of course, this has consequences," the NATO chief stressed. -s.

Stoltenberg's warnings come after the G7 sharply criticized China and Russia in a joint statement calling on Beijing to stop supplying Moscow with weapons technology and opposed Beijing's "militarization" of the Pacific, the new theater of war in the next decade. Stoltenberg is worried because the countries that possess nuclear weapons are not transparent and it is not known how they are modernizing them. According to him, France has not yet made its atomic arsenal available.

“The number of operational nuclear weapons is top secret, but estimates suggest the UK has around 40 of the 225 deployed at any one time. The US has about 1,700 of the 3,700 deployed. "France, NATO's third nuclear power, does not make its atomic arsenal available to the alliance because of a long-held decision to maintain independence over its deterrence," Stoltenberg said.

Vladimir Putin has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine and has placed nuclear warheads closer to Europe's borders. However, he has recently scaled back his threats.

The NATO chief declined to discuss how many warheads should be pulled from storage and put on standby, but revealed there were direct consultations on the matter. "NATO is in talks to deploy more nuclear weapons in the face of a growing threat from Russia and China," the head of the alliance said. Jens Stoltenberg added that the bloc should show the world its nuclear arsenal to send a direct message to its enemies.
