Pope Francis appeared with his arm bandaged during his meeting with Baba Mondi of the Albanian Bektashis, after injuring his right arm during a fall.

"This morning, due to a fall at Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis suffered a contusion on his right forearm, without a fracture. The arm has been immobilized as a precaution," the Vatican press office said.

The announcement came after Vatican media released photos of the 88-year-old pope's morning meetings in which he wore a bandage on his hand and around his neck. While some photos showed him shaking hands with his left hand, other photos showed him using his right hand to sign a document.

The pope also fell in early December, hitting his chin on his bedside table and displaying a significant bruise on the right side of his face.

Pope Francis' voice has also sounded hoarse for weeks. When he met with ambassadors serving at the Vatican on January 9, Pope Francis read only the first paragraph of his prepared text. Explaining that he was "still suffering from a cold," he asked an aide, Ms. Filippo Ciampanelli, to read the rest of his text.
