Kamala Harris

The vice president of the United States of America, Kamala Harris, has been involved in a car accident, as the event was initially mistakenly reported as a "mechanical problem".

Harris was headed to the White House shortly before 10:30 a.m. Monday when the driver of her car made a wrong turn and hit a curb, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed.

The impact was such that the tire had to be replaced, bringing Harris' motorcade to a halt, sources told The Washington Post.

The video, which appears to have been captured from a high-rise vantage point, showed armed guards standing around parked vehicles at the entrance to an underpass as Harris left the scene.

"Oh my God, it's Kamala!" There it is, there it is, I saw it. He was in the car that crashed, this is crazy," a witness can be heard in the video.
