A dramatic episode occurred at a vocational training center in the province of Bergamo, where a student suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during physical education class.
The timely intervention of school staff, trained in first aid, proved essential to the boy's survival. Before the start of the sports activity, the young man fell to the ground unconscious. The teachers immediately provided first aid, while 118 was also notified.
"The activity in the gym had not yet started when he felt bad", says the director of the L'Eco di Bergamo center - thus ruling out the possibility of a heart attack due to exertion".
The action of the assistant teacher in charge of first aid was decisive, as she immediately started cardiopulmonary maneuvers following the telephone instructions of the 118 operator. At the same time, the physical education teacher found the semi-automatic defibrillator present in the gym. The arrival of Red Cross workers made it possible to stabilize the boy with a defibrillator and transport him by helicopter to the hospital.
The young man has been in intensive care for two days and is now out of danger, while doctors are investigating the causes of the cardiac arrest.
The boy's mother expressed her deep gratitude to the school staff: "They saved my son's life. It is very important to have a defibrillator in places frequented by young people."
And Albania, how far is it from realizing these conditions?
