US President Donald Trump has attacked Pope Leo XIV in a post on Truth.

"He is weak on the crime front and very bad on foreign policy. He talks about fear of the Trump administration, but he does not mention the fear that the Catholic Church and all other Christian organizations experienced during Covid, when priests, ministers of worship and anyone else were arrested for celebrating religious services," the American president wrote.

"I much prefer his brother Louis because he's completely MAGA. He's got it all figured out. I don't want a Pope who finds it acceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons."

"Leon should be grateful to me because, as everyone knows, his appointment was a shocking surprise. He was not on any list of possible candidates and was chosen by the Church only because he is American; in fact, it was thought that this was the best way to manage the relationship with President Donald J. Trump."

It continues: “If I weren’t in the White House, Leone wouldn’t be in the Vatican.”

After failed negotiations, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday, the United States will begin a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump has also declared: "I don't care" whether Iran returns to negotiations or not, adding that peace talks in Pakistan failed because Tehran refused to "give up its nuclear ambitions."

Iran has warned that any military ship approaching the sea route will be "dealt with harshly", while the country's parliament speaker has said Tehran will not "surrender under threats".

Iran's foreign minister has stated that both sides were "very close" to an agreement in Pakistan, but then Tehran was faced with "maximalism" and "constantly changing conditions."
