From Prague, 44 countries send a clear signal to Russia

In Prague, Czech Republic, the leaders of 44 European countries gathered to send a clear signal to Russia that Europe is united and without it. Emanuel Macron, the creator of the European Political Community, said from Prague that the inaugural summit of the European Political Community "shows the unity of the European continent as it faces the consequences of Russia's war in Ukraine." According to him, the aim, first of all, is "to exchange views on the situation in Europe, but also to build a common strategy".

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized the importance of the meeting to demonstrate unity in the circumstances of the Russian War in Ukraine: "Those who are meeting here know that the Russian attack on Ukraine is a brutal violation of the order of security and peace that we have had in Europe for decades The last. It is important that this attack is not accepted, we do not accept that parts of our neighbor are annexed", said Scholz.

Scholz: BPE will not be an institution with administration

Whereas, regarding the Summit, the Chancellor of Germany said that care should be taken that the European Political Community forum does not turn into a new international institution. "We are not dealing with the creation of a new institution with administration and bureaucracy. This meeting should serve us to talk to each other about concrete things".

The head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell said that "the Community intends to create a new security structure, but without Russia". Borrell said that the Political Community will not exclude Russia forever, but "this Russia, Putin's Russia, has no place here".

The European Political Community, according to the next Czech Presidency of the European Union, will not be a substitute for the expansion process, especially with the countries of the Western Balkans.

Osmani: Euro-Atlantic integration a guarantee for peace

At the Prague Summit, in addition to the EU member states, 16 non-member states were also present, among them the six countries of the Western Balkans. The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, reiterated "Kosovo's strategic orientation for Euro-Atlantic integration as the best guarantee for peace and security in the region." "European states must remain united in their stances and actions against the hegemonic and destabilizing goals of Russia and its satellites in Europe and in our region in particular. This unity must be shown through cooperation on issues of security, economy, energy, combating propaganda and cyber attacks," said President Osmani.

Among the invited countries was Serbia, which is one of the countries that refuses to join the EU sanctions against Russia. Before the summit, European officials said they expect this meeting to be an opportunity where official Belgrade will again be asked to respect the European sanctions policy against Russia. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić told reporters that "he is not afraid of those who threaten Serbia for not imposing sanctions on Russia and that the response to the European leaders will be worthy, responsible, serious and broad".
