The U.S. Department of Justice said Sunday it will review the response they gave to gun attack law enforcement facilities at a school in Uvalde, Texas, during which 19 children and two teachers were killed.
The police response is facing growing public anger over what has been described as a failure to confront the armed person rapidly.
He stayed for about an hour in a "Robb" elementary school class, while police officers waited in the hallway and the children inside called for help.
Texas state and county authorities have announced they are conducting investigations into the event. Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley, said that at the request of the mayor of Uvaldet a critical review will be conducted regarding the response of law enforcement facilities to the event.
"The aim of the review is to ensure an independent panorama of actions and response of law enforcement facilities that day, as well as to learn lessons and implement best practices to help structures that are responsible for responding first on the ground, in cases where perpetrators of attacks turn out to be dangerous". Mr. Coley said.
"The Department of Justice will publish a report with its findings at the conclusion of this review," Mr. Coley added.
