ATHENS – In the wake of the investigation into the case of the murder of six Turks on the afternoon of September 11, 2023, in the area of Lucca, the Greek police arrested two people with foreign citizenship and are looking for a third person as the author of the executions.

The arrested are a 28-year-old Turkish man, who was handcuffed yesterday morning in the area of Agios Dimitrios, but also for a 32-year-old, his compatriot, who was arrested immediately after the massacre at Eleftherios Venizelos airport, trying to fled to Turkey.

As it resulted from the investigation of the Department of Crimes Against Life in the Directorate of Security of Attica, the authors of the mafia execution are the two arrested and at least one other person, unidentified, who is wanted.

The 32-year-old is suspected of having a leading role, as he was the one who undertook the transport of six victims from Athens near the airport, where the murder was to be carried out. He has taken them to an abandoned apartment in Lucca, with the argument that the house is close to the airport, since the victims until then were staying in an apartment in Paleo Faliro, which was rented.

From the evidence and footage from the security cameras in the area, it turned out that the 32-year-old took his 28-year-old accomplice to the place of the murder. The 28-year-old man waited on Arionos street, while his accomplice convinced the six victims to get into a blue car, which was allegedly destined for Eleftherios Venizelos airport, from where they would travel to Italy.

The 32-year-old, in fact, allegedly belonged to the same gang as the six victims, but for an unknown reason he decided to betray them, leading them into a deadly trap. The 28-year-old is suspected of having taken all preparatory actions for the execution as he "scanned" the scene, shortly before the victims arrived there.

The role of the third person who participated in the execution remains unknown, as well as whether the two arrested were the ones who opened fire, executing the six Turks or were simply present at the scene at the time of the massacre.

After a coordinated operation, the police managed to locate the 32-year-old Turkish man at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, as he was preparing to flee to his country.

Control at the 28-year-old's house

The 32-year-old was identified both from the evidence and video materials, as well as from the clothes and shoes he had in the apartment, which were the ones he was wearing at the time of the execution. In the same way, his 28-year-old colleague was identified, in whose house, the police found clothes and shoes that he was wearing on the afternoon of September 11.

The 28-year-old was arrested yesterday morning in an apartment in the area of Agios Dimitrios, where he allegedly stayed for the last time. As a result of the Police's investigation, a quantity of raw cannabis was found and seized in the 28-year-old's apartment.

The two arrested are known to the authorities

The two arrested are known to the Greek authorities for cases of illegal possession of weapons and illegal transportation of foreigners, while the six victims, although they had not been involved in crimes in Greece in the past, were all members of a known gang with international activity.

A few days ago, the Turkish police arrested ten people in Istanbul and Izmir, among them members of the Daltons gang, but also two relatives of the victims of the Lucca massacre. All of them were allegedly planning revenge in Istanbul, for the murder of 6 people in Athens.

Mafia murders in Athens and arrests in Turkey

The mafia execution with six killed Turks took place on the afternoon of Monday, September 11, and was initially rumored to be a showdown between drug trafficking gangs. More than 20 shell casings found at the crime scene, as well as the execution site itself, revealed the first evidence of how well organized the mass killing was.
