NASA accuses China: It is preparing to colonize the Moon

"We are very concerned about the fact that China could land on the moon and say: Now it's ours, you should forget about it." The words do not come from a science fiction series, but from an interview that the head of the American NASA, Bill Nelson, gave in recent days to the German "Bild".

Nelson refers to the activity of the Chang spacecraft preparations, which according to him are preparing the descent of Chinese astronauts to the satellite of our planet in a few years. Not only that, he thinks that Beijing's plans go further, with the construction of several space stations that, at first glance, are simply conducting experiments, but are actually colonization vanguards.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has reacted harshly, describing Nelson's words as provocations, but China's ever more ambitious activity on the Moon cannot be denied. In 2019, the Chang spacecraft launched an exploratory "rover" on the surface of the Von Kraman Crater, at the South Pole of the satellite, an area that we can never see with the naked eye from Earth. According to the Beijing authorities themselves, the experiments there also brought an extraordinary result, where some cotton plants managed to germinate.

Unilateral colonization of the Moon by a state is categorically excluded by the 1979 Moon Treaty, but none of the major powers has yet ratified it, and Beijing's maneuvers are prompting a swift response from Washington.

That answer is called Artemis, a $95 billion project that aims to return pilots to the surface of the planet's only natural satellite by 2025. Preparations have begun, and an unmanned test, first in orbit, could materialize in August or September of this year.

"In the war for space", beyond the ambitions of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the American administration and Vladimir Putin himself, for years private entities have also entered, the most well-known of which are undoubtedly the two richest people in the world, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos . The plans of the multibillionaires even go further, with the prestigious objective of landing on the planet Mars.
