War in Ukraine must accelerate integration of Western Balkans

French newspaper Liberation writes that Russian aggression in Ukraine can and should speed up the membership process of Western Balkan countries.

According to the newspaper, with EU membership and the West would once and for all discontinue Russian ambitions to destabilise this region, as well as strengthen NATO's geostrategic and military positions.

As an example, Liberation brings the base of Kucova, once a communist base that has today been put into the service of the Alliance.

"The renovation of the base, launched in 2018, was accelerated by the Ukrainian crisis, which favours co-operation within the camp against Putin and strengthening the protection of territories in which the conflict may lie", French media say.

By offering support to NATO forces, Kucova's air base will present a key strategic base in a politically unstable region.
