The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo said that the first case of Mpox, or monkeypox, in Kosovo has been confirmed.
The person infected with this virus is a 30-year-old Kosovo citizen. The National Institute of Public Health said that he was hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo on December 24, after returning from West Africa and had symptoms such as fever, rash, skin changes, facial and hand rashes, and itching.
" The patient is in stable health. IKSHPK has traced all declared contacts of the infected person and his family members, who have been given recommendations for infection prevention and control measures ," the announcement said.
The institute called for caution, adding that people infected with monkeypox usually experience mild or moderate symptoms, which, according to the NIPHK, last two to four weeks.
Monkeypox is spread through close contact.
It is usually accompanied by mild symptoms, but in some cases the virus can be fatal to humans.
The virus is accompanied by flu-like symptoms, as well as pus-filled blisters all over the body.
In August, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a global public health emergency.
Declaring a disease a global public health emergency means that more funds can be allocated and measures taken globally to prevent the spread of the virus./REL
