An Israeli official has stated that the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, Alireza Tangsiri, has been killed in an airstrike in Bandar Abbas.

According to the source, Tangsiri was a key figure in Iran's maritime strategy, including responsibility for closing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping routes. So far, there has been no official reaction from Iranian authorities or the Israeli military.

Tangsiri had a long military career, serving as a brigade commander during the Iran-Iraq War and then heading the Revolutionary Guards' First Naval District in Bandar Abbas.

He was known for his harsh rhetoric against the United States. In 2007, he declared that in the event of a confrontation, Iranian forces would "pursue them all the way to the Gulf of Mexico."

On August 23, 2018, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei appointed him commander of the Revolutionary Guards Navy. In 2025, Tangsiri unveiled what he described as Iran's largest naval military project, an aircraft carrier built on the basis of a repurposed merchant ship. He was also subject to US sanctions.

In 2019, the US Treasury Department designated him a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist,” freezing his assets and banning any business dealings with him. In 2024, he was also included in additional sanctions for ties to an Iranian drone development company. The event comes at a time of high tensions in the region and could have a direct impact on maritime security and global energy markets.
