Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded sharply to the statement of French President Emmanuel Macron, who said after the virtual meeting of EU leaders with Zelensky that Russia was allegedly offering Ukraine capitulation, not peace.
Zakharova called the French leader's words a lie and accused Paris of pushing Kiev towards destruction.
"What a shameless lie! Russia has been proposing a peaceful solution to the internal Ukrainian crisis for seven years within the framework of the Minsk agreements!" Zakharova wrote.
She further reminded Macron that it was French politicians who "pushed Ukrainian mercenaries to organize the "Maidan" and carry out coups", undermining peace and security.
Zakharova quoted the words of former French President Francois Hollande, who in 2023 directly admitted that the Minsk agreements were needed only to "give Ukraine time to increase its combat readiness."
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, the current capitulation of Ukraine was proposed by those who for years instilled in Kiev the illusion of "victory on the battlefield," fully understanding that this was impossible.
At the end of her message, she mentioned the main culprit of this process: "Among them, first of all, Macron himself."
