French rescue officials have recovered the bodies of four climbers. According to local authorities, two of the climbers were Italian and two others came from South Korea.
Their dead bodies were found near the top of Mont Blanc, on the French side. The climbers were found at an altitude of 4,700 meters on the highest peak of the Alps.
Rescue officials say they died of hypothermia. The unaccompanied climbers had alerted rescue forces on Saturday afternoon, but deteriorating weather conditions prevented them from getting there in time.
While two other Korean climbers were successfully rescued on Sunday morning at an altitude of 4,100 meters.
At 4,809 meters high, Mont Blanc is the highest peak in Western Europe and very popular with climbers from all over the world. However, climbing this mountain is extremely dangerous.
For this reason, in 2022, a French mayor said that the conditions on Mont Blanc were so dangerous that the climbers had to pay a sum of 15 thousand euros to cover the costs of the rescue or, in the worst case, the funeral.
