Donald Trump's return to the White House as president has also brought about a change of furnishings, refurnishing the building once again.

" The Times " has now published footage from inside the Oval Office , where the photos show all the changes the president has requested with the departure of Joe Biden .

A bust of Winston Churchill, which had taken pride of place in Donald Trump's Oval Office as a symbol of the enduring special relationship, had been removed.

In her place, Joe Biden, the new occupant of the White House at the time, had put civil rights leader Martin Luther King, activist Rosa Parks, and socialist Latino union leader César Chavez.

Was Biden, the son of Irish immigrants to America, trying to send a message to Britain? And what would it mean for the Anglo-American alliance?

With Trump's return to office on Monday, the bronze bust was restored, along with several other changes.

On the left side of the room, Trump has held up a bust of Abraham Lincoln and has also added a portrait of the 16th president above it.

He retains the Resolute Desk, but has replaced the carpet and reintroduced a circular rug that Nancy Reagan designed for her husband Ronald.

To the right of the room, where Biden placed a bust of Harry Truman and a portrait of Benjamin Franklin, Trump has placed a portrait of Andrew Jackson and a “Bronco Buster” sculpture, made in 1895. depicting a cowboy. Aides have also reconfigured the bookcase.

Trump has been vocal in his admiration for Churchill, who remains a popular figure in American politics. The bust, by British-American sculptor Jacob Epstein, was presented to George W Bush by the British government in 2001.

Since then, the bust has become a point of contention between British politicians and Democratic presidents, who have generally removed it for display elsewhere in the White House complex.

Redesigning the Oval Office for a new term is a time-honored tradition, with each president giving the space their own distinctive color to signify the goals of the next four years.

The focal point remains the Resolute Desk, a gift from Queen Victoria to Rutherford B Hayes in 1880. The desk, made from white oak and mahogany from HMS Resolute, has been used by eight presidents.

The walls are adorned with portraits of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton , and Andrew Jackson .

Trump also kept a portrait of Benjamin Franklin that had been brought by Biden, but removed one of Franklin D Roosevelt.

Throughout the West Wing, various photos were removed Monday morning to make way for new images selected by Trump in gold frames.

Unlike other meeting rooms in the complex, presidents tend to personalize the office, selecting art and artifacts that emphasize their values.

Presidents can choose art from the White House collection, the vast holdings at the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum, or seek to borrow works from other countries.

Military flags for each branch of service have been returned to the Oval Office after being removed during Biden's term. Other items introduced by Trump included silver eagle figurines on the mantelpiece and a square paperweight emblazoned with his name.

New silver eagle figurines now stand on the sideboard. The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States and a symbol of strength, courage, and freedom.

One of the few elements of the room that has remained intact for years is the instantly recognizable gold curtains, which were designed for Bill Clinton in 1993.
