Europe stands by Zelensky: Be strong, brave and fearless, you are not alone!

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has reacted after the failure of negotiations between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Von der Leyen expressed her support for Ukraine through a message on social media:

"Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You are never alone, honorable President Zelensky. We will continue to work with you for a just and lasting peace," Ursula von der Leyen writes.

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has also made a strong statement in support of Ukraine, emphasizing the European Union's commitment to the fight against Russian aggression.

She expressed support for Ukraine and said that this country "is part of Europe" and that Europe must stand by it to face the challenges posed by the aggressor.

“Ukraine is Europe! We stand with Ukraine. We will increase our support for Ukraine so that they can continue to fight against the aggressor. Today it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It is up to us, Europeans, to rise to this challenge.”

French President Emmanuel Macron also sided with Ukraine. After the meeting, Macron wrote on Twitter: “ Russia is the aggressor and Ukraine is the victim of aggression .”

We were right to help Ukraine and impose sanctions on Russia three years ago, and we must continue to do so.”

Meanwhile, Josep Borrell, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Policy, was even harsher, expressing his support for Zelensky and criticizing Trump and Vice President JD Vance, calling their actions shameful.

"Trump and Vance have put on a shameful show. I am ashamed of that behavior. The US deserves better. The free world must support Ukraine. I have been and am with it," Borrell wrote.

Even the future Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, has stated that he stands by Ukraine in good and difficult times.

He adds that the aggressor cannot be compared to the victim, a reaction triggered by the meeting between Trump and Zelensky today, a meeting that ended without an agreement.

"Dear Volodymyr Zelensky, we stand with Ukraine in good times and in trials. We must never confuse the aggressor and the victim in this terrible war," he said.

Outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wrote:

"No one wants peace more than the citizens of Ukraine! That is why we are working together to achieve a lasting and just peace. Ukraine can count on Germany and Europe."

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said:

"The Netherlands continues to support Ukraine. Especially now. We want lasting peace and an end to the war of aggression that Russia has started. For Ukraine, for all its inhabitants and for Europe."

Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden joined other European leaders:

"Luxembourg stands with Ukraine. You are fighting for your freedom and a rules-based international order"

Like Portuguese President Luis Montenegro:

"Ukraine can always rely on Portugal"
