El Nino "invades" Australia, temperatures rise above 40 degrees

The El Nino phenomenon, known for extreme phenomena such as cyclones, fires and droughts, has affected Australia, bringing high temperatures which endanger the presence of fires in the country.

Australia continues to be under the power of high temperatures for which it is predicted that the heat wave will increase, bringing the risk of fires.

The El Nino phenomenon usually associated with extreme phenomena such as fires, cyclones and droughts brought the first warnings to Western Australia followed by the South while areas of Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory were under "severe" warnings.

About 1,500km north of the state capital Perth, in the Pilbara mining town of Paraburdoo, a top temperature of 48C was forecast more than seven degrees above the average January high.

The highest temperature recorded in Australia was a record 50.7C which was recorded at Onslow Airport in the Pilbara on 13 January 2022.

On the east coast, parts of the New South Wales capital, Sydney, are forecast to reach 40 degrees Celsius, almost 10 degrees above the average January high.
