Two people arrested for stealing France's precious crown jewels from the Louvre museum have admitted "partially" responsibility for the robbery, a French prosecutor said.
Four hooded thieves made off with the jewelry after forcing their way into the museum on the morning of October 19.
Laure Beccuau said at a press conference on Wednesday that the two detainees face preliminary charges of theft committed by an organized gang and criminal conspiracy. She said the jewelry has not been found at a press conference on Wednesday.
The suspects, both in their 30s, were identified from traces of their DNA found at the museum.
One of the suspects was arrested at Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport on Saturday evening.
The suspect was reportedly caught trying to board a flight to Algeria, Le Parisien reported, while the second was preparing to depart for Mali, according to Le Figaro.
One of the suspects is a French citizen, while the other has dual Franco-Algerian citizenship, according to Le Monde.
The pair are suspected of being part of the gang of masked thieves who forced their way into the Louvre museum in a seven-minute robbery last Sunday, stealing jewellery worth £76 million.
