The State Department cancels all refugee travel to the US.

All refugee travel to the U.S. has been canceled by the State Department. Officials have reportedly been instructed to halt the process of referring refugees overseas and halt a Biden administration program that allows American citizens to sponsor refugees.

The move does not currently affect holders of Special Immigrant Visas who have assisted U.S. military forces, the guidance states.

On Monday, the day President Trump was sworn back into the White House, he signed an executive order suspending the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), saying that America “lacks the capacity to absorb large numbers of immigrants, and in particular, refugees, into its communities in a way that does not jeopardize the availability of resources for Americans.”

The rule bans USRAP until “further entry into the United States of refugees is consistent with the interests of the United States,” the order says.
