George Clooney thinks that he is being used as a "scapegoat" in the game of blaming someone or some for the loss of Kamala Harris in the US presidential elections against Donald Trump and is considering staying out of politics.

The 63-year-old Hollywood star strongly endorsed Harris after previously showing Joe Biden the exit door in a scathing op-ed in the New York Times.

"I love Joe Biden, but we need a new candidate," was the title of his article.

The actor has since been criticized by Democrats for his influence during the election, with some arguing that Harris' loss was his fault.

Clooney has been left disappointed and hurt by the Democrats' backlash, with experts saying he did not immediately endorse Harris because he felt Democrats needed to take a step back to weigh their options.

"George feels the backlash he's getting over losing Kamala is completely unwarranted," a source close to the actor told DailyMail.

“He thinks it's completely unfair that they're trying to make him a scapegoat for her loss. When he wrote his op-ed, George didn't say 'Biden is unfit for president, pick Kamala.' The Democrats trusted Kamala and within days she was the nominee. George thinks they should have taken a step back and considered their options. That's why he didn't support it right away. He has supported the Democratic Party and invested so much time and money into it, but for now he will take a step back. He feels very disappointed," added the source close to Clooney.

The actor had written an op-ed in the New York Times last July calling for Biden to withdraw from the race and declaring, "We're not going to win in November with this president."

The article was published less than a month after Clooney raised $30 million for Biden's re-election campaign. Weeks later, Clooney expressed his support for Harris and her "historic efforts," while thanking Biden for "saving the Republic" by giving his seat in the vice presidential race.

But this action has been criticized by Democrats, who said: "It's all George Clooney's fault."
