Fear at Rome's Fiumicino airport, the plane's engine catches fire as soon as it takes off from the runway (VIDEO)

An incident occurred near Rome's Fiumicino airport.

The engine of a plane caught fire immediately after taking off from the runway, while the video shot near Isola Sacra shows flames coming out of the engine under the right wing.

The plane in question left Rome for Shenzhen, China at around 10.30am on Sunday 10 November.

The engine failure and fire on the Hainan Airlines plane are believed to have been caused by the collision with some birds in flight.

The plane made several spins at altitude to offload fuel before making an emergency landing on the runway which was cordoned off by firefighters.
