The Appeals Chamber of the Special Court has rejected the request of Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi for provisional release. They had filed a request to overturn the decision of the Basic Court that did not grant them provisional release.

According to the announcement of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, the dismissal of the three appeals was made on August 13.

On the other hand, former President Hashim Thaçi, who is part of the KLA quartet on trial for alleged war crimes, has not requested release at all. He is also facing another indictment, that of attempted obstruction of justice.

On May 13, 2025, the Pre-Trial Judge in the Thaçi et al. case rejected the requests for provisional release of Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi.

Thaçi, Veseli, Krasniqi and Selimi have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office. Their trial began in April 2023, but they have been in detention since November 2020.

What is known as the big trial in The Hague - the trial of Thaçi and others - is nearing its end. The prosecution has closed its case, while defense witnesses are expected to be heard by mid-September./Kosovapress
