US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are holding their historic meeting in Alaska today, announced several weeks ago, with a focus on ending the war in Ukraine.
The White House has confirmed President Trump's main schedules, according to the agenda:
At 6:45 a.m. EDT (11:45 a.m. BST), the president will leave the White House and head to Anchorage, Alaska.
About nine hours later, at 11:00 local time (8:00 BST), he and Putin will begin their discussions about the conflict in Ukraine.
After nearly seven hours of talks, the president plans to leave Anchorage at 5:45 p.m. local time (2:45 a.m. BST).
US President Donald Trump hinted yesterday that European leaders could be invited to a possible second meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should also attend.
"We'll have a meeting with President Putin, President Zelensky, myself, and maybe we'll bring some of the European leaders with us. Maybe not," Trump said at the White House.
Trump is scheduled to meet with Putin on Friday in a meeting that the US president has downplayed, saying it is mainly to lay the groundwork for a second summit.
The focus of Friday's meeting will be Russia's war against Ukraine, which has been ongoing since February 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale attack against its neighbor.
During his election campaign, Trump claimed he would end the war quickly.
He stated that he believes that Putin and Zelensky would make peace.
When asked if he would agree to a reduction in NATO troops in Europe to accommodate Russia, Trump said such a proposal had not yet been presented to him.
