The Soviet Union returns to the stage during the summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, which will take place tonight in Alaska.

The delegation accompanying the Russian president also includes Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who drew attention with an unusual appearance for him.

Lavrov appeared at the Anchorage military base wearing a sports T-shirt with the Cyrillic initials of the former Soviet Union written in large letters.

A clear symbolism that refers to the Cold War period, in an event that could constitute a key moment in negotiations to end the war involving Russia.

In a brief statement to the media, Lavrov said he expects the meeting to continue a constructive dialogue with the US delegation.

"We are not planning anything in advance. Our position is clear and we will state it. So far, a lot has been done, especially during the visit of US envoy Steve Witkoff. I hope that this time too we will continue good and useful communication," the Russian foreign minister said.

The rest of the Russian delegation, including Dmitry Peskov, has arrived in Alaska, while the arrival of the "main player", President Vladimir Putin, is still pending.

The meeting between Putin and US President Donald Trump is scheduled for Friday, August 15, at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage. The program includes a one-on-one conversation, followed by a meeting with delegations, and negotiations will continue throughout the working morning.
