Global cocaine production reached a new record in 2023, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
According to data published in its latest report, cocaine recorded production of 3,708 tons, or in other words 34% more than in 2022.
The expansion was driven by figures from Colombia, which remains the world's leading producer, with 253,000 hectares dedicated to coca plants.
According to the UN, production is growing strongly, especially in the southwest of the country, where criminal organizations made up of dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, who did not join the peace agreement, operate.
The area dedicated to coca production in Peru decreased slightly, while in Bolivia it remained stable.
