The affected products include “Squeezy Dumplings” by GIHNJSI and “Rainbow Mystery Squishy Buns” by OKK Trading. Both contain water beads, which, if swallowed, can expand inside a child’s stomach, causing choking, intestinal blockage, severe discomfort and even “risk of death,” the CPSC warned.

The recall affected about 8,000 “Squeezy Dumplings” that were sold on Amazon during May and June, according to the recall notice. The squishy, gelatinous toys are known for their round, soft shape, gummy-like contents, cartoon faces and packaging modeled after a bamboo steamer, which reads “SQUEEZY DUMPLINGS” and “SQUEEZE ME.”

Meanwhile, more than 7,200 Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun toys, which were sold at third-party stores across the US from May to August of this year, were also included in the recall.

They have a similar design to "Squeezy Dumplings," complete with sparkles, faces, and the same steamer-shaped containers, but their label says "Rainbow MYSTERY" and "SUGAR EDITION."

The CPSC has also warned consumers to throw away “Squishy Bun Toys” from Ivyapingdianpu, as they contain water beads that violate mandatory safety standards.

Despite receiving a Notice of Violation, the CPSC said the company has refused to issue a recall or offer a refund for the dumpling-shaped toys, which also contain glitter-like particles, a cartoon face, and a fake steamer with the labels "SQUISHY BUN" and "Rainbow MYSTERY."

There are reportedly 100 of these problematic toys, which were sold on Amazon during June, as well as by other sellers. In the event of an injury or other defect in the toy, the agency urges affected consumers to report the product to the CPSC.

The warnings come after a series of cases where consumers have suffered burns from exploding squishy toys. While some incidents involved squishy toys that had been microwaved as part of a TikTok challenge, others were simply left in the sun.

Over the summer, a West Virginia teenager had to be hospitalized after suffering burns from a squishy toy — similar to the viral mystery dumplings or NeeDoh cubes — that had been mistakenly left inside a hot car.

The vehicle had inadvertently acted like a solar oven, causing the squishy toy to heat up, weaken and expand. When the teenager climbed into the back seat, the gel bubble burst, spraying her legs with molten silicone.
