The report mentions that these companies "can often operate more efficiently and with fewer bureaucratic obstacles than government entities".

The US intelligence community expects that Russia, China and Iran will continue to try to influence US politics "to benefit themselves and to undermine democracy and Washington's place in the world".

"Moscow is using Russian companies to shape public opinion in the United States, including operations related to elections ," the report said, among other things.

American intelligence considers Russia to be "the main threat to American elections" and believes that Moscow is working to avoid being noticed.

The report also stated that China "probably does not plan to influence" the presidential elections, although it may aim to "denigrate candidates it considers dangerous to its interests".

American citizens will vote on November 5 in the presidential election.

The former American president, Donald Trump, is the Republican candidate in this race, while the American vice president, Kamala Harris, is expected to be announced as the Democratic candidate.
