A California county sheriff ran 1.5 miles through an area engulfed in flames to rescue two dogs and their puppies.
Trevor Skaggs found the Rottweilers abandoned in a northern California park. They were tired and very hungry, but the male dog did not survive.
After finding the animals he fed them and they were later taken to Chico Airport, where they are now in the care of the North Valley Animal Disaster Group.
"It has been a terrible few days for our community and we are grateful to be able to share this amazing story," the sheriff's office told the BBC.
Meanwhile, the animal welfare group said it is caring for more than 60 large animals, including cows and horses, and more than 80 pets that have been rescued since the California wildfires began.
Meanwhile, the fire has burned more than 360 thousand hectares in a large area in the city of Los Angeles, where only 12% of it is controlled. In the two districts of the country, about 8,000 residents were forced to leave because their homes were at risk of fire.
