Riste Velkov, 51, born in Skopje, was considered one of the most recognizable names on the country's operatic scene. As a renowned soloist of the National Opera and Ballet, he was particularly appreciated for his performances in "bel canto" productions, earning him a reputation as an artist with a "velvet voice."
