President Donald Trump has categorically denied media reports suggesting that his administration has discussed the possibility of helping Iran access $30 billion to build a civilian nuclear energy program.
In a post on his social network Truth Social, Trump reacted sharply to the news, calling it false and "another media hoax."
"Who in the Fake News Media is the villain who says 'President Trump wants to give Iran $30 billion to build non-military nuclear facilities'? I have never heard of this ridiculous idea. It is just another hoax. These people are sick," Trump wrote.
Trump's statement comes after speculation in some American media outlets that claims that an opportunity has been discussed within the administration to offer economic concessions to Iran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program - a model similar to the 2015 JCPOA agreement, which Trump withdrew from in 2018.
Trump campaign spokespeople have not provided additional comment on these reports, while on the other hand, the White House and the State Department have not confirmed the existence of any such official discussions.
