The leader of the Socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, spoke to the media from the Presidency of the Assembly, where he stated that he does not comment on the file of any person under investigation, while emphasizing that corruption also exists in EU countries.
Taulant Balla said that the Socialist Party is not anyone's lawyer, a statement that came after journalists' questions about the arrest of former head of SHISH Vlora Hyseni.
Among other things, Balla stated that Albania is the "black sheep" of Europe when it comes to measures restricting the freedom of persons under investigation, for whom there is no court decision.
"The events that are happening should be seen as positive culmination of the justice reform. Corruption exists everywhere, even in Germany, Italy, the important thing is that today we have justice institutions that investigate and follow through on their investigations. We do not comment on the content of the files and any official without immunity must contest the restriction of freedom in court. The Socialist Party and the parliamentary group are not anyone's defense attorneys. In the case of persons with a parliamentary mandate, the Assembly has exercised the right granted to it by the sovereign through the constitution. Albania, as far as the part related to the restriction of freedom before court decisions are concerned, must put an end to this practice. Ask Chatgtp: Who is the black sheep of Europe when it comes to detention? And it will give you the answer: Albania."
Balla confirmed the majority's position that the investment in Zvërnec will be carried out, as it provides the Albanian economy with over 4 billion euros.
"Saying no to a 4 billion euro investment is impossible, it would be a great loss to the economy if it were to happen. It will not happen. The first phase is the phase related to the purchase of the land. The Albanian government and the Albanian agencies involved in the process will guarantee that all environmental protection principles are respected, in accordance with Chapter 27 of the EU accession treaty. We have informed them of our ambition that we want to close the negotiation process by Christmas next year, so that we can begin ratifications by Easter 2028."
