Palermo Council approves the statute for Arbëresh Communes: Bilingual signage, protection and promotion of language and culture

Good news comes today for the Arbëresh community of Italy, as the Metropolitan Council of Palermo has approved an important statute that aims to preserve and promote this historic community.

The news was announced by Mayor Rosario Petta, who says that the statute for Arbëresh municipalities was approved with the broad support of political forces.

Among other things, the statute provides for the provision of bilingual signage in Arbëresh municipalities as well as the preservation and promotion of their language, culture and traditions.

IMPORTANT RECOGNITION OF THE METROPOLITAN CITY OF PALERMO FOR THE ARABIAN COMMUNITIES OF SICILY

The new statute was approved by the Metropolitan Council of Palermo.

Finally, the Arbëresh communities of Sicily: Countessa Entellina, Mezzojuso, Palazzo Adriano, Piana degli Albanesi and Santa Cristina Gela, are cited and recognized within the Province of Palermo with statutory provisions.

Inside the articles:

-Art. 4 - GENERAL PRINCIPLES

1. The Metropolitan City inspires its activity in the following general principles:

o) to protect, promote and value the historical Arbëresh linguistic minority present in its territory, recognizing it as historical and cultural heritage;

- Art. 17 - mobility and walkability

5. The Metropolitanate, for the implementation of its competence, approves bilingual ITALIAN/ARBERA road signs, near the places belonging to the historical Arbëresh linguistic minority present in its territory: Countessa Entellina, Mezzojuso, Palazzo Adriano, Piana degli Albanesi and Santa Cristina Gela.

It is a day of celebration for all of us Arbëreshës of the Province of Palermo for the important objective achieved thanks to the synergy and cooperation of all political forces present in the Metropolitan Municipal Council of Palermo.

On our part, there was total cooperation from the municipal councils of the five municipalities, which, with a united spirit and without political affiliation, have advanced the interests of all of us and the communities.
